Senate Judiciary Committee Sets Friday Vote on Kavanaugh

On the eve of a showdown hearing, Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the senators who will judge him confronted a third set of lurid allegations Wednesday accusing him of sexual misconduct as a young man. Kavanaugh heatedly denied them all, while Democrats complained about a rush to approval and President Donald Trump said the accusations added up to no more than "a con job".

For 10 days, Trump has watched as allegations of sexual misconduct have swirled around Brett Kavanaugh, his nominee for the Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh and his chief accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, who says Kavanaugh assaulted her in high school, are both expected to testify Thursday.

One thing was clear: There's a lot riding on Thursday's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. So far the White House and Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee have declined to ask for the FBI to investigate the decades-old allegations against Kavanaugh.

"It's happened to me many times", Trump said, claiming he'd been accused - falsely - by "four or five women".

"There is no question in my mind that Mark Judge has significant information concerning the conduct of Brett Kavanaugh during the 1980s, especially as it relates to his actions toward women", she said. Ramirez alleged that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her while they were freshmen at Yale University.

Swetnick also said that Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge were present at a party where she was drugged and "gang raped".

Thursday was already shaping up to be a split-screen day in addition to Kavanaugh's testimony, with the president also set to meet with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and the possibility that Trump might fire the man who oversees the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation.

His accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, is also scheduled to testify. Kavanaugh denies the allegations.

Julie Swetnick said in a statement released by her lawyer that the events took place at parties she attended while a high school student in suburban Maryland.

She alleged that Kavanaugh and others while in high school spiked the drinks of girls at parties with intoxicants to make it easier for them to be gang raped.

"Right after I broke up with her, she was threatening my family, threatening my wife and threatening to do harm to my baby at that time". The outlet discovered that an ex-boyfriend of Swetnick filed a restraining order against her in 2001 after she threatened him - threats he said continued even after he got married and had a child.

In the written testimony released on Wednesday by the committee, Mr Kavanaugh says he has "never sexually assaulted anyone - not in high school, not in college, not ever". Ford says Kavanaugh pushed her into a room and pinned her to a bed.

The attorney Michael Avenatti has also said that he has a client with evidence of sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh and that he could reveal that person's identity before Thursday.

"I never did anything remotely resembling what Dr Ford describes", he will say. She did not identify her attackers and did not accuse Kavanaugh of taking part.

Avenatti called for an FBI investigation into Swetnick's allegations.

Avenatti, Swetnick's lawyer, is the attorney for Stormy Daniels, the porn star who claimed to have had a sexual encounter with Trump more than a decade ago.

The republicans, who are only men in the house judiciary committee, have chose to delegate the interrogation to a prosecutor specializing in cases of sexual violence, Rachel Mitchell, and came from Arizona.
