Browns fire head coach Hue Jackson, name Gregg Williams interim

It took the Cleveland Browns 635 days to finally win a game again but only 39 days since then to sack head coach Hue Jackson.

The Browns lost to the Steelers 33-18 on Sunday after playing to a tie with Pittsburgh in the season opener. Jackson won a total of three games in two-and-a-half seasons. In the interim, it will be defensive coordinator Gregg Williams - he of the Bountygate scandal - taking the reins, according to ESPN.

Jackson is the fourth head coach since the end of the 2012 season owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam have fired.

Hue Jackson was determined to revive the Cleveland Browns' franchise.

The 53-year-old former coach got his first win of the 2018 season against the New York Jets at home in Week 3 led by rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield.

And by moving on from Jackson and Haley, Haslam said he believed the organization took a "big step" in ridding the "internal discord" that can compound the already hard task of winning in the NFL. "We have some very talented players on this team right now as we speak".

Haley was hired in January under the agreement that he would have autonomy over the offense when it came to game plans and play calling but with Jackson's job on the line and the offense struggling to start fast, Jackson wanted to be more involved. I said wanted to help, that's it.

Jackson's firing comes one day after the Cleveland Cavaliers fired coach Tyronn Lue, who led the team to an National Basketball Association title in 2016 but was struggling in his first season without star LeBron James.
