Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $868M; no winners in Tuesday's drawing

The winning numbers of the largest Mega Millions drawing in the game's history have been announced.

Tuesday night's Mega Millions jackpot is the country's third-largest lottery jackpot ever.

The numbers drawn Tuesday night were 69, 45, 61, 3, 49, and the Mega Ball was 9.

The jackpot has been growing since July, when a group of California office workers won $543 million. The chance of matching all six numbers and taking home the grand prize is one in 302.5 million, while the odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are one in 24, Reuters reported. The cash option for the jackpot is $380 million. The Maryland trio went for the cash option of $158 million.

Now, for a bit of a spoiler: A jackpot ticket was not sold in California, California Lottery officials said late Tuesday.

Tuesday's Mega Millions along with Wednesday's Powerball jackpot, which stands at $345 million, are worth more than a cool billion dollars.

The Commonwealth's only Powerball jackpot winners hit a $217 million pot in 2013.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The largest jackpot belongs to the 2016 Powerball jackpot of $1.586 billion.

The odds of winning a jackpot remain abysmal at 1 in 258.9 million for Mega Millions and 1 in 292.2 million for Powerball.
