New Macs might be coming next week based on Apple EEC filing

The iPad Pro update comes at an important time for the device, which hasn't been refreshed since mid-2017.

So, what would we expect these computers to be? When AirPower was absent from Apple's iPhone event back in September, it seemed like the company might have over-promised and needed to go back to the drawing board.

Today we've got another report that lends credence to reports for an upcoming iPad Pro redesign. It will have a higher-resolution 13-inch screen, as well as slimmer bezels around the display. The bezels around the display are expected to remain big enough to hide the Face ID sensors, meaning there won't be a notch on the iPad Pro display.

Further, Face ID is tipped to work in any orientation, regardless of whether the 2018 iPad Pro is held in portrait or landscape mode.

Also: I tried to write this article on an iPad Pro. Instead of using its proprietary technology for syncing or using an external monitor with the iPad, Apple will reportedly use USB-C.

The update to the iPad Pro will be the most significant in the product's history.

These were big improvements and helped make this device much more useful and user-friendly.

It nearly seems like Apple has forgotten about the iPad Mini, or is happy to let the product die as it pushes the iPad towards being a more powerful computer replacement. If it happens, it'll be nice to see this increasingly industry-standard connection on another Apple product, given that the iPhones are still sticking with Lightning connectors.

It's been over a year since Apple first teased its homegrown wireless charging pad that could handle multiple devices at once, including iPhones and the Apple Watch.

One other issue with the current iPad is the time it takes to charge. The new iPad Pro slates also will support the next generation Apple Pencil 2 writing accessory. Rumors claim that this new MacBook lineup will replace the aging MacBook Air lineup. Well, maybe not, after all - though we think the new MacBook Air will keep the relatively affordable price, as that's one of the reasons it keeps selling.

Less certain have been rumors of new Macs, but some seemingly concrete evidence has emerged this week. As Apple continues to gain experience in designing processors, the company's tablets have started to become viable options for low-powered notebooks.

Given that there's still a market for the MacBook Air despite its old internals, the new MacBook lineup should do particularly well this holiday season.

Recent rumours sourced from often reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, indicate Apple has plans to release a new 5th-generation iPad Mini. Its iMac lineup was also last updated nearly 1.5 years ago.

Finally, it's predicted that a new version of the Apple Pencil will be revealed next week, possibly sporting a USB-C connector on the end so that it can be more conveniently charged from a MacBook, or other power sources, without the need for an annoying daisy-chain of USB adapters. After all, the Mac mini was extremely popular as an HTPC due to its compact size. The MacBook Air and Mac mini, a small desktop machine without a screen, have gone several years without notable changes. In some ways it's freaky that Apple hasn't thought to upgrade it in so long, but there's not much that needs changing in the way of the design - it's the internals that are going to get a bump if an upgrade is coming.

Apple first revealed its AirPower charger previous year when the company showed off the iPhone X's wireless charging feature. The company will offer the event livestream on the Apple website, as well as through the Apple TV app.

So the AirPower mat might not arrive this year-or ever-but when the product was first teased, Apple demonstrated it with an upgraded version of the AirPods case that could be charged wirelessly.
