Sri Lankan govt urged to condemn Khashoggi's killing

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Wednesday claimed unity with Turkey, despite a series of leaks from Turkish officials implicating him personally in the killing.

President Donald Trump has called Saudi Arabia's handling of Khashoggi's killing "one of the worst in the history of cover-ups", without specifically blaming the Saudi royals. Just 5 percent said he has been too tough.

He also said last Wednesday: "I'm not sure yet that it exists".

After more than two weeks of vehemently denying Khashoggi was dead and insisting he left the consulate unharmed, the Saudi government on Saturday admitted he was killed in a "fist fight" inside the building, but claimed the murder was not state-sanctioned.

It was the first time a Turkish official has publicly accused Saudi officials on record of the premeditated killing of Khashoggi.

Turkish media has identified a "hit squad" of 15 people who it says helped torture, kill and dismember Mr Khashoggi, and Saudi authorities have arrested 18 people. The poll has a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Oval Office, the U.S. leader said his Turkish counterpart had been "pretty rough" on Saudi Arabia when he addressed the writer's killing in parliament earlier in the day.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said, while visiting Indonesia, that rules will be put in place so that "something like this can never happen again".

Turkey dismissed the Saudi assertion of an accidental death and has pressed the kingdom to concede Khashoggi was deliberately targeted for death.

U.S. president Donald Trump described the journalist's murder as one of the "worst cover-ups in the history of cover-ups".

"From the person who gave the order to the person who carried it out, they must all be brought to account".

Trudeau says his government is looking at the contract with Saudi Arabia to see what can be done.

Gina Haspel has listened to audio allegedly capturing the interrogation and killing of Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

A picture of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman shaking hands with Jamal Khashoggi's son, Salah Khashoggi, has been widely criticised on social media.

Saudi organisers of the conference have sought to portray it as business as usual, announcing 12 "mega deals" worth more than US$50 billion in oil, gas, infrastructure and other sectors on the opening day of the forum.
