Aston Martin's profits rise as sales double

The very sporty utility vehicle will be called the DBX when it goes on sale in about a year.

While Aston Martin is yet to reveal what engine will be hiding under the hood, there are whispers of a six-cylinder AMG powetrain at the lower end, as well bi-turbo V8, hybrid and EV models.

The DBX will be the first product to be built at the company's new St Athan facility, which will ultimately become Aston's "Home of Electrification".

Nevertheless, Aston Martin has now thrown an official spy video at us, one that shows the DBX throwing some land around on the gravel stages of the Wales Rally GB.

So far, testing has been simulated - now things are moving into the real world.

"Seeing a DBX development prototype in action is a momentous chapter in the story of our first SUV, for it is the moment it really comes alive", Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Andy Palmer said.

The DBX differs from the concept quite a bit. Naturally, this includes impressive multi-terrain and towing capabilities as befits a state-of-the-art SUV.

Aston Martin posted a 900 percent increase in third-quarter profit before tax to 3.1 million pounds ($4 million) as the newly listed carmaker continues a growth plan which saw its volumes double in the period. It seems that Aston Martin have finally decided on a five door version as against the three door version that debuted as a concept back in 2015. He was referring to the Bentley Bentayga, which uses Volkswagen Group's Major League Baseball architecture like its siblings, the Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 and Q8, and VW Touareg.

The British automaker is yet to announce engine specs for its new model, although the brand hopes to build the world's most powerful SUV, beating the 650-horsepower Lamborghini Urus.

As for what's under the hood, Aston Martin is still tight-lipped as to what powers the DBX.
