Watch the 12.9-inch iPad Pro teardown reveal Apple’s secrets

Unlike some other recent Apple devices - specifically the Mac mini and the new MacBook Air - the 11-inch iPad Pro turned out to be something of a DIYer's nightmare, with gobs of glue holding everything down and making fix troublesome. The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch models were launched at an event in NY on October 31.

In the end, the 12-inch iPad Pro teardown is nearly exactly the same as the 11-inch model. Similarly, the 12.9-inch model starts at INR 89,900 for the base model, with the top-of-the-line model costing INR 1,57,900.

Both the iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch (Review) variants will be sold in 64GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options. The new iPad Pro can work with the new Apple Pencil as well as the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio. They carry forward the same 120Hz refresh rates. While the 11-inch iPad Pro offers a screen resolution of 2388 x 1688, the 12.9-inch variant offers a screen resolution of 2732 x 2048. The refresh rates on both the screens are 120Hz, and the thickness of both the models is nearly 5.9mm. The chipset comes with an octa-core CPU and a seven-core GPU with the latter offering double the improvement in graphics performance when compared to the last generation GPU. The new SoC has more than 10 billion transistors.

Luckily, the good people at iFixit have fought through gobs of glue to fully tear down the 11-inch version of the Pro, so we don't have to do it ourselves.

For the first time on an iPad, the iPad Pro 2018 models get a neural engine in the A12X Bionic chip. The iPad Pro has the same LCD Liquid Retina display that is found on the iPhone XR. Today, iFixit is taking a look inside the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and if you were hoping for a different outcome, we're sorry to say that you're probably going to be disappointed. This is also the first iOS device to sport a USB Type-C port for charging, data transfer, and external connectivity.

It's noteworthy that the new iPad Pro does not come with a 3.5mm headphone jack and there is also no Type-C to 3.5mm dongle in the box. No wonder then that the 2018 iPad Pro received a repairability score of 3 out of 10 from iFixit.

The iPad Pro now has a 12MP rear camera and 7MP TrueDepth front camera like the iPhone series. The premium tablet claims to offer the same 10-hour battery life and comes with a bundled 18W power adapter. There is a four-speaker setup on the iPad Pro for sound including two woofers and two tweeters.
