White House reveals 2018 Christmas decorations

"This year's theme, "American Treasures" honors the unique heritage of America". The Office of the First Lady released a statement Monday explaining Mrs. Trump designed the White House Christmas display herself and that "the White House shines with the spirit of patriotism".

The White House is open for public tours during the Christmas season. "This home, held in trust for all Americans, displays the many splendors found across our great Nation", the White House Office of the First Lady describes.

More than 40 festive trees line the East Colonnade. The tree hails from a farm in Avery County, North Carolina, and was hand-selected by the National Christmas Tree Association.

Thanksgiving is now but a hazy, gravy-scented memory, and you know what that means: time for the annual War on Christmas.

At 18 feet tall the official White House Christmas tree is dressed in over 500 feet of blue velvet ribbon embroidered in gold with the name of each state and territory and is on display in the Blue Room

The residence's official tree is keeping with a more traditional theme - a Fraser fir bearing 500 feet of blue velvet ribbon embroidered with the names of every state and territory.

In the East Wing, a time-honored tradition returns to honor military families. This tree honors veterans and the military and was decorated by Gold Star families - relatives of those who have lost a loved one while they were serving in the military. Visitors are encouraged to write messages to soldiers overseas on special digital tablets near this tree. This year's decorations prominently feature the slogan for Ms. Trump's ironic anti-bullying campaign on ornaments and in a wreath made out of pencils, among the glittering display. Each showcases a skyline from a different American city: New York, St. Louis, Chicago, and San Francisco.
