The Cavaliers have acquired guard Matthew Dellavedova and forward/center John Henson from the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a three-team trade, Cavaliers General Manager Koby Altman announced on Friday, December 7.
For the Cavaliers, the main attraction is not only to bring back a member of their championship squad, but the multiple future picks headed to Cleveland as a part of the deal.
The Washington Wizards will join the trade between the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers to acquire Sam Dekker for Jason Smith and a future second round pick. Sam Dekker was also hitched onto the Washington Wizards shortly after in exchange for Jason Smith and a second-round pick going to the Bucks. The Wizards, who were introduced in another ESPN report, will take Dekker for a second-round draft pick.
"Carry on", Windhorst said in a tweet.
According to his bio page on the Cavaliers website, Dekker made his National Basketball Association debut in 2015. The University of Wisconsin product hasn't lived up to that status during stints with the Rockets, Clippers, and Cavaliers, but the athletic 6-foot-9 forward makes for a potentially nice fit with a Wizards team looking to play up-tempo.
Hill is now in the second-last year of a three-year, US$57 million deal free-agent deal signed with the Sacramento Kings in the summer of 2017.
Hill is averaging 10.8 points and 2.8 assists this season.
Smith, 32, who is in the final year of his contract, has played in just 12 games this season, averaging 3.7 points and shooting 40 percent from 3-point range. "When you see good basketball out there, it's easy to be upbeat; it's easy to be upbeat for your teammates out there". The 24-year-old has played only nine games.
Henson (6-11, 219), who is in his eighth National Basketball Association season, has spent his entire career with Milwaukee, appearing in 405 games (152 starts) and averaging 7.8 points on.539 shooting, 5.4 rebounds and 1.48 blocks in 20.1 minutes per game.
While with the Cavs, Dellavedova was a player who gave all-out effort in both games and in practice, so an additional benefit of having Delly back in town is having a guard who will continue to challenge rookie point guard Collin Sexton in practice. However, he's been struggling this season, primarily because of an ankle injury.
"I'm glad my Aussie brother is back", Cavs center Tristan Thompson said of Australia native Dellavedova following a 129-110 loss to Sacramento.
