Emery unable to explain Ozil’s back injury

Seven arrests in total were reported by the Metropolitan Police as Arsenal ran out 4-2 winners in a pulsing game inside the Emirates Stadium.

Ozil was axed for the win over Bournemouth last weekend and Emery publicly suggested that the playmaker wasn't suited to playing in high intensity games amid reports he's concerned about the players work ethic.

"I said yesterday he's had backache since last Tuesday".

The Football Association will conduct their own investigation into the incident using CCTV footage, and they will speak to representatives from both clubs on Monday morning, although they are only responsible for punishing clubs not individuals.

They have until 6pm on 6 December to respond.

Arsenal's form in the second half of games this season has been stunning as the north London outfit have scored 24 times in the second half, more than league leaders Manchester City.

Now focus turns to Arsenal's trip to Old Trafford to play Manchester United on Wednesday night and there will be plenty of interest in whether Ozil recovers from this injury in time to play. Contract talks broke down in September and Emery offered no suggestion that the situation would change.

I don't know. It's a good day to speak about the players who were playing.

His dismissal for a second bookable offence late in the game means he will serve a one-match suspension. He needs to think about his future, for his family and for him.

"[Emery told us] to be calm, to continue playing because there were 45 more minutes left, that we keep attacking because obviously in the second half we were going to find more spaces".

Emery said Ozil missed out with "back ache", swerved questions about whether the German had declined to be as a substitute, and wore the air of a man less than happy with his player.
