NORAD's Santa Tracker Will Still Run Despite Government Shutdown

NORAD's Santa Tracker Will Still Run Despite Government Shutdown

After listening, Mr. Trump said, "Because at 7, it's marginal, right?"

President Donald Trump on Tuesday wished US troops stationed around the country and the world a merry Christmas, but only after making them wait for a video conference while they stared at his empty chair.

Here in the Badger State, ReadyWisconsin is doing a more localized track of Santa's journey.

To avoid disappointing the eager children, NORAD's director of operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, ordered his staff to check the radar to see where Santa might be and update the children on his location. Although she knew she was talking to POTUS, she told the Post and Courier, "It wasn't really (nerve-wracking), I just had to think of what the truth was". Yesterday was no different for the White House, with the exception of President Trump being on the receiving end of the call. And in recent years, some children calling the where's-Santa-now hotline have been treated to a one-on-one conversation with the first lady or leader of the free world, who usually dispense good cheer and happy holiday wishes. NORAD also updates Santa's travels on a Twitter feed. What are you going to do for Christmas?.

The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) tweeted Friday that it "will continue with its 63-year tradition of NORAD Tracks Santa on December 24" even in the event of a shutdown, which is great for the world's population of internet-savvy children but also the rest of us, given the necessity of NORAD's function. "Who's with you?" he asked another young caller.

As has been the case for over 50 years, families can track Santa's every move thanks to North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

NORAD says its command centre's Defense Support Program satellites use an infrared sensor to detect heat signatures from Rudolph's nose to provide accurate tracking of the sleigh.
