Reporters, Celebrities Trolled By Fox Analyst Over False Trump Troop Visit Claims

Trump, making his first presidential visit to troops in a troubled region, said it's because the US military had all but eliminated IS-controlled territory in both Iraq and Syria that he made a decision to withdraw 2,000 forces from Syria.

President Donald Trump and the first lady quietly swept into Iraq Wednesday to pay a holiday visit to USA troops, at last making good on the President's promise to travel to one of the war zones he has derided as costly blunders. Air Force One flew overnight from Washington, landing at an airbase west of Baghdad under the cover of darkness Wednesday evening. He stayed for a little more than three hours. He flew to Baghdad under extraordinary secrecy and security to spend Thanksgiving with US troops and thank them for "defending the American people from danger".

Two of Trump's recent predecessors visited Iraq early in their terms. Obama told US troops and Iraqi officials that it was time to phase out America's combat role in the conflict.

Trump criticized his predecessor, Obama, for withdrawing troops too quickly from Iraq, claiming it allowed for ISIS' rise.

A longer-term presence in Iraq provides Trump with a hedge against his withdrawal from Syria, a decision that was widely opposed by his advisers and which led to the resignation of his defense secretary, retired Marine Corps Gen. Jim Mattis.

"I was fully prepared to turn this baby around and come home", he said. God Bless the US plays over the video.

But, as noted by The Washington Times and Twitchy, Hume really had some fun with Soledad O'Brien, who attempted to credit the media's "shaming" of Trump for his visit to the troops.

Trump has also faced negative headlines for wanting to pull troops from Afghanistan where they have been since 2001.

Trump's video shows him with service members who appear to be part of Seal Team Five, whose faces are not covered or blurred, Newsweek reported. "It's time to get our soldiers out, and it's time to get our young people out", Trump said, sitting next to military leaders and advisors. He did not have to serve during the Vietnam War after being diagnosed with bone spurs in his heels.

President Donald Trump, accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, left, speaks at a hanger rally at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018.

The president told service members at al-Asad air base in Iraq that he was proud to secure them a much-needed pay bump of "more than 10 percent" after years of stagnant wages.

"What [presidents] don't do is politicize the event, and unfortunately as we saw some of the commentary by the president today, that's exactly what he did", Hertling pointed out.

Malcolm Nance, a former US Navy intelligence specialist, told Newsweek posting the video ran against traditional procedures that are meant to protect the identities of US special-operation forces in a combat zone.
