UEFA opens proceedings against Arsenal over incidents in Qarabag game

Only turning 17 three months ago, Ealing-born Saka is one of Arsenal's hottest academy prospects and he impressed on Thursday night as the Gunners sealed a 1-0 win over Qarabag in their final Europa League game.

He probably should have capped his performance with a goal as well when he had a gilt-edged chance to double Arsenal's lead but fired nearly straight at the goalkeeper.

"He played with a very big personality and sometimes with a very good performance".

"We give them these chances in the games like today, when we can do that".

As well as the Ozil conundrum, Emery faces a headache over his defensive selection with both Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi suspended. "And today Saka also, he played with a good performance with a very big personality", Emery said.

Laurent Koscielny came through 72 minutes of the game unscathed before he was replaced by Nacho Monreal, this after a long lay off with a ruptured Achilles. "We need [to go through] a process with them, but in this process they need also to show us their development".

"It was Wednesday in training", he said when asked when he knew he would be playing. But Emery still opted to start Sokratis and Lacazette, along with the fit-again Mesut Ozil, and rejected the notion that it was a risky decision heading into the busy festive period.

Speaking after the match the former Sevilla boss said: "We give the chances [to young players] and they show us positive things". Because [the youngsters] can play better if you have with you also players to help you on the pitch.

"I just focused, and I couldn't stop thinking about today and how I was going to play, and I think it turned out alright".
