US Source: Hezbollah Leaders Killed in IAF Attack

Addressing an Israeli Air Force pilots' course graduation ceremony at the Hatzerim Air Force Base on Wednesday, Netanyahu said: "We are not prepared to accept the Iranian military entrenchment in Syria which is directed against us".

Caretaker Public Works and Transport Minister Youssef Fenianos called Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri to "put him in the picture of what happened yesterday" during Israel's airstrike, the National News Agency said.

Israel repeatedly carried out strikes on targets on Syrian soil that it regards as threats to its security.

Almost an hour after the attacks began, Damascus residents could still hear the air defense units firing toward targets in the air.

Air defense missile is seen in the sky over the capital Damascus on December 15, 2018. The missiles are believed to have been fired by Israeli warplanes that had also violated the Lebanese airspace.

Israel frequently attacks military targets in Syria in what is considered as an attempt to prop up militant groups that have been suffering heavy defeats against Syrian government forces.

Russian Federation announced it had delivered the S-300 air defence system to Syria in October.

The IAF dropped up to 16 GBU-39 precision-guided glide bombs during the operation, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The strike also reportedly targeted strategic Iranian munitions, including advanced Global Positioning System components for weaponry.

He added that the Israeli airstrikes took place as "two airliners, not from Russian Federation, were preparing to land at the airports of Beirut and Damascus".

Syrian media said Wednesday morning that Israel hit a base used by Hezbollah in Al-Dimas, a weapons depot at a base belonging to the Syrian army's 4th division in Sabura and the military's 10th Division command in Qatana.

Israel's military spokesman's unit did not confirm the raids, but said in a statement that 'an aerial defense system was activated against an anti-aircraft missile launched from Syria'.

There were reports of loud explosions through the Syrian capital and videos shared on social media showed Syrian surface-to-air missiles being fired into the sky.
