Australian Open: Fans fight over Aryna Sabalenka's headband

Decorum is usually a term associated with tennis crowds but it was completely ignored when two spectators at the Australian Open provided an embarrassing moment, as they fought for minutes over a sweaty headband.

The two women were captured in a fiery tussle after Aryna Sabalenka's win over Katie Boulter on Wednesday.

Now, the story has been turned on its head by one of the women's claims she has a history with Sabalenka and was the intended recipient when the Belarusian star tossed her accessory into the stands.

Konta said: 'She is a great player.

Sabalenka is pretty popular in Melbourne. "She came over to me after the match and said, "Thanks for your support" and signed my flag", Ms Willett said.

Video was posted of the unusual scenes on social media, which were apparently sparked when Sabalenka threw her headband into the crowd. "I bought it myself online and even printed Sabalenka's name on it".

In the end, video circulating on social media showed tournament security staff intervening in an attempt to defuse the situation.

The Belarussian has a remarkable 7-1 win-loss record in 2019 after she won the title in Shenzhen and she reached the 4th round in Melbourne (her only loss was in the opener in Sydney at the hands of Petra Kvitova).
