Celtic and Rangers interested in former Man United prospect

The Gers are now looking to add another keeper to their ranks to provide competition and cover to the likes of Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham. The player admitted he was looking to leave in this window and Celtic want to make that happen, even if it means paying the player off as their's no interest from other clubs at this point.

Marinovic is now a free agent after leaving Vancouver Whitecaps at the end of the recent Major League Soccer season.

Defoe, along with Steven Davis, was given a 45-minute run-out in Sunday's 3-2 friendly win over HJK Helsinki at Ibrox.

Gers were linked with Powell, with Old Firm rivals Celtic also believed to be interested. For the first time during that run, however, Celtic appears to be in for a fight for the title, with Rangers experiencing a resurgence under first-year manager Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard has confirmed though that Rangers are close to completing the signing of Matt Polster.

Rangers have opened talks to sign New Zealand worldwide goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic after taking him on trial, Football Insider understands.

The 24-year-old is out of contract with the Latics at the end of the season.

Polster will add versatility to the Rangers ranks seeing as he is comfortable at both right-back or in midfield. We haven't got it over the line just yet, but we've told his advisers we'd like him to come.

"Scored three goals, missed a penalty, had a lot more chances and had a goal ruled out that would have given Scott [Sinclair] a hat trick".

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says that the Bhoys' transfer challenge is finding players who can improve his side, but admits he remains wary of the squad size at Parkhead.
