Ronaldo will be in the Spanish capital on tax charges related to his time at Real Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo pleaded guilty to tax fraud on Tuesday and received a two-year suspended sentence.
But it's unlikely that he will go to jail, because in Spain people don't usually end up in jail if they get sentences of less than two years. He was accused of hiding this income from the Spanish government through a variety of shell companies located in the British Virgin Islands in order to avoid taxation.
"His court appearance lasted about 15 minutes, as he only needed to sign off on the previously settled agreement".
That amount was not mentioned in the sentence but a source at the court, who refused to be named, said Ronaldo would have to pay €18.8 million in total, giving no further details.
A move to the Serie A leaders would pair Marcelo with Ronaldo again, a team-mate of nine years at Real Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo is all smiles while holding hands with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez while arriving at the Provincial Court of Madrid on Tuesday (January 22) in Madrid, Spain.
Ronaldo asked for special security measures for accessing the court, but the request was denied, a Madrid judge said in a statement.
But Ronaldo's legal wrangles won't be over after a probe was opened in the United States in October after a former American model accused him of raping her in Las Vegas in 2009. He is accused of defrauding tax authorities of about 2 million euros ($2.3 million) from 2010-12.
The retired Spain midfielder denied any wrongdoing after spending almost three hours in the court house. But on the advice of his consultants, he ended up accepting the facts of the case against him.
The Portugal-born five-time Ballon d'Or victor, who lives in Spain and has earned an estimated $450 million in his career, is willing to pay an extra $400,000 to ensure a suspended sentence, said the Spanish daily newspaper ABC.
Once again, the charges relate to income generated from image rights. The sky was gray and the Madrid air was bitingly cold, but the star soccer player didn't take off his sunglasses nor did he stop smiling for the cameras for even a moment.
