Maduro rallies military as Venezuela opposition plans protest

"If the USA intends to intervene against us they will get a Vietnam worse than they could have imagined".

Maduro is willing to sit down with the opposition "for the sake of Venezuela's peace and its future", he told Russia's RIA Novosti news agency.

That has left the staff there with "limited ability to provide emergency services to USA citizens in Venezuela", according to the new travel advisory released Tuesday.

As for Venezuela's relations with Russia, Maduro thanked President Vladimir Putin for always supporting Venezuela.

Maduro also claimed that US President Donald Trump had ordered the government of Colombia to assassinate him.

The White House said U.S. President Donald Trump spoke to Venezuela's self-proclaimed interim president, Juan Guaido, by phone on Wednesday, reiterating support for his "fight to regain democracy".

The court is stacked with Maduro loyalists. National Assembly president Guaido wants Maduro to step down so he can set up a transitional government ahead of new elections.

Opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself the interim president last week and has urged citizens to challenge Maduro with walkouts on Wednesday.

She said Moscow and Beijing have grown wary of USA and European foreign interventions after their decisions to help topple the governments of Iraq in 2003 and Libya in 2011.

He accused the "oligarchy" in neighboring Colombia of being behind an attempt by military deserters to drive a wedge between him and the armed forces - which are key to his hold on power.

Pompeo said Tuesday the certification will "help Venezuela's legitimate government safeguard those assets for the benefit of the Venezuelan people".

A lack of export pipeline capacity means Canada will not be able to boost shipments to take advantage of USA sanctions against Venezuela's national oil company, analysts say.

He also called on the European Union to level "more sanctions" against Maduro's government. "The odds are its attitude to them will be not very friendly, but I do not think that all Russian investment contracts will enjoy the same treatment", Pantulas said.

Bolton advised the global business community on Twitter Wednesday not to "deal in" Venezuelan oil or other commodities "being stolen from the Venezuelan people by the Maduro mafia", and added, "We stand ready to continue to take action".

The opposition argues Mr Maduro's re-election last May was a sham.

The sanctions mean the state-run company may not be able to fulfil contracts with North American buyers, the Government of President Nicolas Maduro said.

He says, "Americans should not travel to Venezuela until further notice".

The Kremlin said this week it expected Venezuela to pay its debts. If the money is transferred.it will be used by the illegitimate and kleptocratic regime of Nicolas Maduro to repress and brutalise the Venezuelan people'. More than 40 people have died so far in and around the protests that began a week ago, the United Nations human rights office said.

Maduro's allies blame the opposition for the violence and deny the high death toll as well as reports that minors were among those arrested.

Maduro said the worldwide media was misrepresenting Venezuela's reality to set the stage for an invasion.

The embattled leader is accusing the United States of leading an open coup to oust him and exploit Venezuela's oil reserves, the largest in the world.
