Russia Says 'Arbitrary' Israeli Air Strikes On Syria Should Stop

According to the Observatory, twelve of those killed were members of the IRGC, six were Syrian soldiers and the remaining three were fighters from other nations.

Israel rarely comments on its operations in Syria, but in a break from the norm it said in a statement on Monday that it was "currently striking" the Iranian Quds Force in Syria and warned Syria's military against "attempting to harm Israeli territory or forces".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in wake of the statements that those who threaten Israel and vow to destroy it would bear "full responsibility". Russian Federation maintains that Israel did not notify it of the attack sufficiently in advance for the plane to distance itself from the scene of the strike.

A man was skiing on the slopes of Mount Hermon on Golan Heights when the camera on his helmet captured a missile interception by Israel. The rocket was intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome system. There were no casualties but Israeli army officials said if it had landed it could have killed dozens of people.

The strikes have long caused friction between Israel and Russian Federation, which apart from Iran is Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's other major foreign backer.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who now is on a visit to Chad, responded to the Israeli raids in a statement: "We have a defined policy: to harm Iranian entrenchment in Syria and to harm anyone who tries to harm us".

"We understand that the Iranians are trying to change the context and deter us from our policy and our strategy of fighting Iranian troops in Syria", Conricus said.

Israel has pledged to stop Iran from entrenching itself militarily in Syria, carrying out hundreds of air strikes there against what it describes as Iranian targets in Syria and those of allied militia, including Lebanon's Shi'ite militant group Hizballah. But now neither side appears willing to intervene, especially after President Donald Trump announced he is pulling all American troops out of Syria.

Earlier on Wednesday, Netanyahu signalled that the Syria sorties would continue.

FILE - An Arrow 3 anti-missile interceptor, jointly developed by the Israeli and USA governments, is test-fired from central Israel on February 19, 2018.

A pioneer of the Arrow system, Uzi Rubin, says the Arrow 3 will increase Israel's defense significantly. "It is the first defense these missiles will meet".

"There are 15 foreigners among the dead, including 12 from the Iranian forces", he said.
