Thunder journal: Ryan Saunders wins first game as Minnesota interim head coach

Andrew Wiggins had a season-high 40 points and 10 rebounds, and the Timberwolves beat the Thunder 119-117 on Tuesday night. Noel went to block an Andrew Wiggins dunk attempt and the two collided which resulted in Noel smashing his head on the court.

What a night for Minnesota Timberwolves interim head coach Ryan Saunders. After being motionless for a few minutes, he was conscious when taken away on the stretcher.

When asked about Schroder after the game, Wiggins made remarks that will likely earn him a call from the league office.

After the game, Wiggins, who grew up north of Toronto in Vaughan, thought Schroder's actions were unwarranted and some thought he appeared to say "He was just gay".

Wiggins received help from Karl-Anthony Towns (20 points) and the bench (37 points) on Tuesday. Wiggins attacked the basket with ferocity and inadvertently elbowed Noel in the face, knocking the big man out before he face-planted into the floor. George led the Thunder in scoring with 27 points while Westbrook posted 25 points, 16 assists and five rebounds shooting 50.0 percent from the field but 1-for-6 (16.7 percent) from long range. Though Noel was called for a foul on the play, Schroder apparently was unhappy about the incident and was exchanging words with Wiggins. I didn't really see it until I saw him on the ground. "He obviously comes from a great pedigree with his dad (the late Flip Saunders), and he's been around it for a long time, and being around Thibs and in the game, so I'm sure he'll do a good job". I looked right through it. Timberwolves guard Jeff Teague was ejected in the third quarter after a skirmish with Schroder.

"I just tried to make an aggressive move and dunk", Wiggins said of the play.

He also spent a year with the Dallas Mavericks before joining the Thunder in July 2018 on a two-year contract.
