Wednesday's United Kingdom snow risk

A band of wet weather that could fall as rain, sleet or snow is expected to push from west to east during Tuesday morning, affecting Wales, northern England and Scotland.

Yellow weather warnings have been put in place across parts of the United Kingdom for the next few days. Widespread overnight frost is expected to develop with the maximum temperature 4 °C.

Cloud, rain and snow clearing to give clear skies across all parts.

A yellow weather warning has been issued.

Snow and ice warnings for Thursday between 6.00pm and Friday 12.00pm for Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, North East England, Orkney & Shetland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders and Yorkshire & Humber.

There have already been heavy downfalls across parts of the United Kingdom with some areas expecting "very significant snowfall", according to the Met Office.

'Snow amounts will vary markedly across England and Wales with many places seeing very little accumulating snow.

Mr Burkill said: "It's what happens on Thursday that has the potential to be more disruptive".

Snow has yet to arrive in the Wrexham area, however as of lunchtime forecasts show there is sleet and potentially snow on higher grounds on the way.

Later, heavy showers are likely along coastal areas and we could get isolated thunderstorms.

"It's worth bearing in mind there will be some disruption, particularly to travel. If you're heading out on the roads, be aware your journey will take a lot longer than normal", Mr Burkill added.

As the temperature drops into the minuses overnight, there is a high chance of icy roads and pavements on Wednesday morning.

"It's looking like it will be a spell of persistent snow".
