Danai Gurira Is Leaving ‘The Walking Dead’

Another star of hit zombie drama The Walking Dead is expected to leave the long-running USA series after much speculation.

Unfortunately, for fans of the latter, Gurira is about to become the latest fan favorite to exit The Walking Dead.

Under her new deal, Gurira will return in a limited capacity - described as only a handful of episodes - that will be interspersed throughout season 10.

Danai Gurira, who shot to fame in 2012 when she joined the cast as the katana-wielding Michonne, is believed to have signed a deal for her last season on the show. The show is now in its ninth season, which returns for its second half on Sunday night. In recent seasons, Rick and Michonne were romantically involved and surrogate parents to Judith but we're still not sure where those projects will lead. Her loss will be a big blow to the show's creative plans.

Her exit comes after what's been reported as "prolonged negotiations" with AMC, the company who produces the show, which is broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ 2. We love Danai; we love that character. In 2016, her future Black Panther co-star starred in Eclipsed, a play that starred her future Black Panther castmate Lupita Nyong'o, earned Gurira a Tony nomination for best play. "But we certainly would want her on the show as long as she wants to be on it", Madden said.

This is largely as a result of the success of Marvel film Black Panther, where Danai played Dora Milaje general Okoye. After that, her character will leave the post-apocalyptic series forever.
