Le'Veon Bell To Become Unrestricted Free Agent As Steelers Decline Tag

The Pittsburgh Steelers will attempt to trade disgruntled receiver Antonio Brown this offseason, but general manager Kevin Colbert told reporters Wednesday that they aren't going to give away the All-Pro.

There had been some talk about using the transition tag, but we can officially kill all speculation. Bell ended up sitting out all of last season during a contract dispute and the Steelers finally came to the conclusion that he wasn't worth the tag.

By using the transition tag, Pittsburgh would be able to match any offer sheet the running back signed with a different team to keep him with the Steelers. Bell and the NFLPA would likely argue that the transition tag is close to $14.5 million based on the escalating value of tags, and the Steelers and the National Football League would say it's closer to $9.5 million because Bell sat out.

The Pittsburgh Steelers opened the 2018 National Football League season with arguably the best trio of weapons in the NFL.

Pittsburgh could have tagged Bell for a third straight year, but it would have cost the team upwards of $25 million, according to NFL.com's Tom Pelissero.

"Respectfully, we did agree to look into a trade [and it] would probably be the best course of action for both sides". According to Colbert, the team is willing to shop Brown to see about trading Brown but it was clear from his comments this isn't a done deal by any means.

Team president Art Rooney II spent 20-to-30 minutes with Brown in South Florida on Tuesday to discuss Brown's situation, Colbert said.
