It was the first major award of Grant's career. The red carpet show begins 3 pm PT (4.30 am IST) featuring exclusive interviews with the nominees, presenters and performers. Spike Lee is vying to become the first black director to win an Oscar for his explosive take on USA race relations in "BlacKkKlansman"; Rami Malek, who has Egyptian heritage, could be named best actor for his performance as the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in "Bohemian Rhapsody;" Regina King ("If Beale Street Could Talk") and Mahershala Ali ("Green Book") are also seen as strong contenders in the supporting actor races.

So, if you're planning on staying up and having the Oscars 2019 sesh of your dreams, here's exactly where you can watch the 91st Academy Awards here in Ireland.

Glenn Close, who attended with her dog, Pip, took best actress for her role in The Wife.

Best worldwide film went to Alfonso Cuaron's black-and-white semi-biographical picture Roma - and the filmmaker immediately predicted the growing diversity in the industry would make the category obsolete.

Last night the Independent Spirit Awards were held on a beach in Santa Monica, where the best independent films were celebrated at the final awards show before tonight's Academy Awards.

Accepting the prize on stage, Mexican film-maker Cuaron said he is "optimistic" about diversity in Hollywood and that it could soon mean there is no need for an global film category.

Alfonso Cuaron's black-and-white cinematic ode to his childhood, leads with 10 nominations and is a firm favorite for the coveted best picture Academy Award. King is also nominated for an Oscar.

Up for best film are:'Leave No Trace, Eight Grade, You Were Never Really Here and Barry Jenkins' If Beale Street Could Talk.

The best part of every awards show happens before it even starts.

The prizes were handed out by non-profit organisation Film Independent, comprising actors, film-makers and critics.

Hopefully Pip will be on Close's arm for the Oscars tonight, and if he doesn't take the stage, we riot #BringAllTheDogsToAwardsShows.
