Wayne Rooney sends message to Man United about Mauricio Pochettino

Jesse Lingard reckons that Manchester United could mount a title challenge next season - if they can maintain the form they have shown under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils are searching for their next permanent manager after the 20-time English champions parted company with Jose Mourinho in December.

The Norwegian's made a near ideal start to life as the club's caretaker boss since replacing Mourinho in mid-December and has won eight of his nine games in charge of the Red Devils.

The visit was mooted as a gesture of goodwill when United made an agreement to loan Solskjaer for the rest of the season, with the fixture against PSG or the upcoming Premier League home match against Liverpool earmarked as potential glamour ties.

Following a 1-0 victory over Leicester City, Manchester United now occupy the fifth spot in the EPL table - 12 points adrift of their local rivals and leaders, Manchester City.

Pochettino had seemed to be the obvious choice to take the job permanently when Solskjaer took charge at Old Trafford, Rooney himself backing him for the role.

Former Everton striker Wayne Rooney believes he could still do a job in the Premier League, according to CNN Sport. The Red Devils, following a awful start to their season under former manager Jose Mourinho, are now back to their usual standards since Norwegian tactician and former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken the Old Trafford job.

"I think the club will have a decision to make at the end of the season, and it'd be nice to see if Ole's going to continue with this form, and get a shot at the job on the permanent basis". "But if not, if the club go to choose from somewhere else, then I think Pochettino would be the right guy".

However, the retired Argentina global is still waiting to win his first piece of silverware at the club.
