Chicago police open internal investigation to track down Jussie Smollett 'leaks'

In a statement to Fox News on Thursday, a spokesperson for the force confirmed that "an internal investigation has been opened".

An employee in another department came to her desk and asked if Smollett been admitted under an alias, the worker said, adding that she didn't ask why the information was needed because she believed it to be a professional request. In January, the actor told police he was punched in the face, had bleach poured on him and he suffered a bruise on his face. The actor was then released after he posted $10,000 of his $100,000 bond.

The Chicago PD's faced tons of criticism for the way they've handled the Jussie Smollett case especially due to the amount of information that was being spread from police sources.

According to the Chicago Police Department, Smollett paid Abimbola "Abel" and Olabinjo "Ola" Osundairo by check for a "phony attack" in order to take "advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career".

According to CBS' reports, the nurse was sacked last week, and the nurse says that many other nurses and staffers who were fired, were probably for the same reason she was sacked.

While the odds are seemingly stacked against Smollett, Latifah isn't the only star who has rallied their support for the actor.

Smollett's representatives said they learned of the incident shortly after the news broke, but did not elaborate.

"The events of the past few weeks have been incredibly emotional for all of us". "While these allegations are very disturbing, we are placing our trust in the legal system as the process plays out".

But after police arrested two men who were "persons of interest", police sources revealed that police suspected Smollett knew the men and had paid them $3,500 to stage the attack.

"We are also aware of the effects of this process on the cast and crew members who work on our show and to avoid further disruption on set, we have made a decision to remove the role of Jamal from the final two episodes of the season", the statement continued.
