Instead, Hastings says he believes Netflix will "learn lessons" from the competitor, saying that "we will make this a better industry if we have great competitors". As a part of the streaming platform, Apple will also launch an upgraded TV app that will act as a hub for multiple streaming platforms.
"We've always had massive competitors", Hastings said.
"These are fantastic, large, well-funded companies ... but you do your best job when you have great competitors".
Discussions between the company and potential vendors have not been fruitful between some of the biggest publishers and creators, namely and reportedly Netflix and Hulu - a consortium-backed service with shows from AT&T, Disney, Comcast, Fox and their subsidiary networks.
Primarily a DVD delivery service in its early years, the Los Gatos-based Netflix made its first steps into streaming in 2007 when the AOL dial-up sound was still a recent memory for getting online.
