4 injured in shooting at San Diego synagogue, man detained

A hospital said it's treating four people injured in the shooting but didn't know the extent of their injuries.

"A man has been detained for questioning in connection with a shooting incident at the Chabad of Poway synagogue".

It is reported the man fire six or seven shots inside the center - before being detained "down the road".

Deputies have advised any and all residents to continue to avoid the area as the sheriff's office continues to investigate.

Injured individuals were transported to the Palomar Medical Center, the sheriff added. One of the shooting victims was a rabbi who was now holding service and suffered a hand injury. His condition is unknown. The witness said the rabbi tried to calm the gunman and members of the congregation even after the rabbi was wounded, the station reported.

The Sheriff's Department tweeted that eastbound Espola Road at Summerfield Lane and westbound Espola Road at Avenida Florencia would be closed through the morning of Sunday, April 28th.

Passover, one of the holiest Jewish celebrations of the year, ends Saturday.

As you can imagine, more people are reading The Jerusalem Post than ever before.

The shooting continues a trend of violence against places of worship throughout the world, and comes as millions of Jews across the globe observe the final day of Passover.
