Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, wife MacKenzie finalize divorce

Jeff's 12 percent stake is now worth around $100billion which allows him to retain his title as the richest man in the world because he still has $4billion more than Bill Gates.

In a tweet, MacKenzie Bezos said she is giving up all her interest in The Washington Post, the newspaper that Jeff Bezos bought in 2013, and Blue Origin, the space exploration company he founded.

Jeff Bezos said on Twitter that he was "grateful for her support and for her kindness in this process". "She is resourceful and brilliant".

That stake is worth approximately $36 billion per Amazon's current share price.

The couple each released statements on Twitter on Thursday announcing that they have "finished the process of dissolving" their marriage.

She added: "Excited about my own plans".

MacKenzie, an author, played a significant role at the company in the early years, but her presence faded in later years.

The settlement also suggests that Amazon will be spared the kind of boardroom battle that has plagued other companies whose owners are dealing with family rifts, even though the divorce had jolted the once private Bezos couple into the public spotlight.

The public exchange of affectionate respect between the couple came after months of awkward revelations about Jeff Bezos's relationship with a former news anchor, Lauren Sanchez, whose intimate phone text chatter and photographs were published by the National Enquirer.
