Couple jailed 25 years for torture, abuse of their children

But before the California couple learn their sentences, which could happen Friday, they might hear gut-wrenching testimony from some of the children they held captive for years.

David Allen Turpin, 57, and his wife Louise Anna Turpin, 50, had pleaded guilty to 14 felony counts - including cruelty, false imprisonment, child abuse and torture of their children aged three to 30 - and will serve at least 25 years before they are eligible for parole.

The parents each spoke before the sentencing.

Other questions were just as hard for the girl as she said in the call, "I don't know what medication is. And so I think they may spend a long time processing the two". They have the right to address the court to say how they've been impacted by the abuse.

"I hope and pray my children can stay close to each other since their mother and father can't be there for them", he continued.

"I never intended for any harm to come to my children".

Louise and David were charged with abuse and torture for the beating, shackling, and starvation of their children, which went on in the home for years.

The siblings, found to be suffering from malnourishment, muscle wasting, stunted growth and other signs of severe abuse, were taken into protective custody, and the parents were arrested.

"Life may have been bad, but it made me strong".

A new video has surfaced, which featured the 911 call in January 2018 from Jordan Turpin, 17, pleading for help during her planned escape from her parents who allegedly tortured their children in their Perris, California home.

The seven adult children were living together and attending university in February when their parents pleaded guilty.

"It's going to be a tough day for everyone - very emotional", said Jack Osborn, a lawyer representing the Turpins' adult children.

"I miss all of our children and I will be praying for them". "It's up to each one of them".

When rescued, all the children except for the youngest, a toddler, were severely malnourished, prosecutors said.

The Turpin offspring weren't allowed to play like normal children.

The teenager revealed they never had breakfast, and only ate peanut butter, bologna sausage, and frozen burritos or chips for lunch or dinner. One of the siblings got a new pair of shows, and they were a little too tight, but he didn't want to give them back. They hadn't seen a doctor in years. A plea deal was reached in the case, which will prevent the children from having to testify against their parents.

The victims told investigators that being tied with ropes was initially a form of punishment.

The couple's 17-year-old daughter, Jordan, escaped the family's Muir Woods Road residence on January 14, 2018, and told a 911 dispatcher that her two younger sisters were "chained up to their beds", shackled so tightly their bodies were bruised, according to testimony from the defendants' June 20-21 preliminary hearing.

But after jumping out a window from the filthy home where she lived with her parents and 12 siblings, she knew enough to punch the digits 9-1-1 into a barely workable cellphone and then began describing years of horrific abuse to a police dispatcher.

The teen had planned her escape for more than two years.
