Ex-Irish, NFL RB Wood facing murder charge

Cierre Wood - a former Notre Dame running back who had short stints with five National Football League teams - initially was arrested Tuesday at a hospital along with his girlfriend, Amy Taylor, on charges of child abuse and neglect of Taylor's child, says a spokesman for the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.

Ex-NFL player Cierre Wood, 28 and his 25-year-old girlfriend, Amy Taylor, were arrested Wednesday in the death of Taylor's 5-year-old daughter, authorities in Las Vegas said.

Via Christopher Redfearn of FOX 5 Vegas, Wood and Taylor were arrested at the Summerlin Hospital Medical Center Tuesday night after the death of the child, who is Taylor's daughter.

They are facing first-degree child abuse charges, although the details of the allegations against them have not yet been released.

Wood's final season playing for Notre Dame was 2012.

Wood and Taylor were each held on $5,000 bond, according to Clark County jail records. Per Melissa Hudson of ABC 57, Wood is due in court for a hearing on Thursday morning. His last couple of seasons in professional football have been spent north of the border in the Canadian Football League, where he was now a free agent.
