Federal Bureau of Investigation remove evidence from Sol Pais' Florida home

Concern mounted after investigators learned that upon her arrival at Denver's worldwide airport from Miami on Monday, Pais went to a store in nearby Littleton, Colorado where she bought a pump-action shotgun and some ammunition.

Twelve students and one teacher were killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999 by two students in what became the deadliest school shooting at the time.

Local police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were looking for Pais who was believed to have flown to Colorado and purchased a shotgun in recent days, after she'd made "credible" threats against schools in the Denver area.

Students at the Florida high school attended by a young woman authorities allege is obsessed with the Columbine shooting have described her as quiet and intelligent. This story was reported from Los Angeles.

"She was then taken to an area where she was last seen out near the foothills and we have been trying to find her ever since", Phillips stated. In emergencies, call 911, or seek care from a local hospital or mental health provider. "That is so much more reassuring than where we were 20 years ago", DeAngelis said.

"We [make] our decisions based on the best intel we have at the time and to close an entire metro area is not an easy decision, but at the end of the day, it's the right decision and best decision to protect all of our kids".

According to the shop's post, 18-year-old Pais passed a background check and was given clearance "by both NICS and CBI" to purchase the long gun.

Rayburn said Pais told him she bought the shotgun to go "turkey hunting".

U.S. authorities have mounted a massive search for Sol Pais, 18, who travelled from Florida to Colorado where she bought a pump-action shotgun and ammunition and was last seen in the foothills around Denver.

Colorado authorities, who said Pais was armed and considered "extremely risky", had ordered around half a million students to stay at home "due to ongoing safety concerns".

Pais' final hand-written note is dated March 30, 2019, less than three weeks before she reportedly traveled from Florida to Denver and made threats against Columbine High School. Columbine and more than 20 other schools outside Denver reacted by locking their doors for almost three hours Tuesday afternoon, and some canceled evening activities or moved them inside.

John Nicoletti, a psychologist who works as a consultant to the Jefferson County Public Schools, said the accumulation of actions made by Pais - buying a plane ticket, taking the flight, purchasing a weapon - shows "somebody who is committed to carrying this out".

Officers were seen removing the large stack of papers Wednesday morning from the single-family home of Sol Pais in Surfside, Florida, a city just north of Miami Beach.

Schools in the Denver area were on lockdown Wednesday, but officials said regular activities will resume, with added security, starting Thursday.
