Firefighters union endorses Joe Biden ahead of Pittsburgh rally

It's labor and union voters like the ones who packed a tiny auditorium Monday who Biden is eager to win over.

"Sleepy Joe Biden is having his first rally in the Great State of Pennsylvania". And the "blue wall" states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and MI that unexpectedly tipped to Trump over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election may have supplanted Florida and OH as the nation's premier presidential battlegrounds.

The largest firefighting union in the country is endorsing Joe Biden for president because of his long-standing support of firefighters, the union's leader said Monday as he defended the endorsement. The race gained national attention since the district voted heavily for Trump in 2016 but for President Obama in 2008 and 2012.

Former Vice President Joe Biden speaks during his first campaign event as a candidate for president at Teamsters Local 249 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on April 29, 2019. "He obviously doesn't know that Pennsylvania is having one of the best economic years in its history, with lowest unemployment EVER, a now thriving Steel Industry (that was dead) [and] great future!"

The International Association of Fire Fighters announced its decision in a video message that described Biden as an advocate for the middle class.

Many Democrats here say they are excited to be the first desire of Biden's campaign but added it's too early to endorse a candidate. "He knows that a strong middle class means a strong America, and we know, as president, he will stand up for all the patriotic Americans who want nothing more than to earn a decent wage, send their kids to college, have affordable health care and a decent and secure retirement".

"The Dues Sucking firefighters leadership will always support Democrats, even though the membership wants me".

Monday's rally also drew the president's ire.

While the Trump campaign has released statements knocking top contenders as they entered the race, aides have said the campaign doesn't plan to go after specific candidates as their primary unfolds.

More than half of U.S. voters say they will not support President Donald Trump in the next election in 2020, a new ABC News/Washington Post poll revealed on Monday.

One in three likely voters said they would "definitely" support Trump, while another 14 percent have not made their choice yet.
