Giants wanted No. 2 pick from 49ers for Beckham

The New York Giants have been hammered by fans and pundits alike this offseason for dealing star wide receiver Odell Beckham part of a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns.

To add to this, word was the Niners would've been amenable to moving from 2 to 6 as part of a deal for Beckham.

As The Athletic's Matt Barrow reported, Lynch revealed Friday that in talking with NY about a possible trade for Beckham, the Giants not only wanted the Niners' second-overall pick in the 2019 draft but another first-rounder for their All-Pro wideout. "They wanted two No. 1s". However, the 17th pick does not put them in a position to select either player.

Had the Giants landed the second overall pick in a trade for Beckham they would be set up to ensure they could draft one of Dwayne Haskins or Kyler Murray with that pick. "So we tried to come up with creative different ways to get it done and it didn't work out, so you move on".

CEO Jed York told reporters at the National Football League owners meeting this week that the 49ers were "aggressive" in talks for the star wide receiver, but they never really got close.

"We were definitely in it", York said via NBC Sports.

Soon after Lynch's comments aired, the NFL Network reported the 49ers could have been persuaded to exchange their No. 2 pick for the Giants' sixth pick, but the organization feared more demands from NY and the two parties, obviously, were never able to come terms on a deal after that.

Ultimately, a deal could not be struck between the Giants and 49ers, instead paving the way for the Browns to swoop in late and acquire Beckham in exchange for a first-round pick, third-round pick and safety Jabrill Peppers.
