Israel to name Golan town after Donald Trump

Israel took the western two-thirds of the Golan Heights in 1967 during the Six-Day War.

Other users offered some creative suggestions for what name to give the town.

It would be called Kiryat Trump, which means "Trump Town" in English. At the time no country recognized the move. "I just believe that the US should deal with the Middle East on a level-playing-field basis", he said.

"We condemn statements like that made by [US Senator Bernie] Sanders, which was really odd", Tzachi Hanegbi, a minister in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's outgoing cabinet and senior member of his conservative Likud party, told Israel's Reshet 13 TV.

Syrians held up an Arabic banner that reads, "Golan is ours despite Trump's decision". According to the Christian Post, Syria's foreign ministry said the proclamation makes "the United States the main enemy of the Arabs". Iran is now the greatest military threat to Israel.

In 2016, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government issued just 42 tenders for construction.

He tweeted out his gratitude for President Trump's continued support in securing him the position.

Netanyahu was touring the Golan Heights on Tuesday and said there was a "need to express our appreciation" to the president.

"Yet Israel is also one of America's most important allies in the world", the questioner said.

The data indicated that Mr Netanyahu's government was aiming to build on a massive scale during Mr Trump's time in office as his soft stance on such construction deemed illegal under worldwide law.

Trump, in May 2017, was the first sitting US president to visit the holy Western Wall site.

President Donald Trump's name is emblazoned on buildings and real estate around the globe.

"But the United States needs to deal not just with Israel, but with the Palestinian people, as well", Sanders said.
