John Oliver slams WWE, Vince McMahon for not giving wrestlers health insurance

For starters, Oliver said: "You can't talk about the WWE without talking about its chairman and CEO, Vince McMahon", seen in a magazine photo shoot shirtless, styled as "scary grandpa who looks like big, bumpy hotdog", and bearing a giant chain around his neck. He noted the billions of dollars Vince McMahon has made while not providing health insurance to wrestlers who have to go on the road all year. Bret "The Hitman" Hart, who lost his brother Owen while they were both in the WWE (which was called the WWF back then), said that McMahon treated them like circus animals.

On the Last Week Tonight show, British comedian John Oliver discusses a topic at length, sometimes in a satirical way, and it was the WWE's turn to be put on blast.

"While the character Vince is an asshole, it's important to know that the real Vince is also an asshole", Oliver bluntly said.

"If fans in that arena want McMahon to pay for wrestlers' long-term health care or just to call them employees, they could choose to make up chants about that". "Well, incredibly, there might be, because there's one group that even McMahon occasionally seems to listen to, and that's the fans".

Powell's POV: I don't think it's a wise idea for WWE, as I can't imagine they would be successful if they were to attempt to co-opt the HBO host, but here's hoping that Oliver will take the company up on the offer and is allowed to bring a camera crew with him.

"Even the National Football League, for all its massive faults, now offers players health reimbursement accounts and have established a legacy fund for older players who may be dealing with health issues".
