'SNL' Adam Sandler to Host in May - Musical Guest Shawn Mendes

Comedian Adam Sandler is hosting "Saturday Night Live" for his very first time May 4 along with musical guest Shawn Mendes.

Sandler, who appeared on the show from 1991-95 having joined in 1990 as a writer, now appears in his latest Netflix comedy special 100% Fresh. But one of the biggest success stories to come out of the late night sketch comedy series has never hosted in the 24 years since leaving the show. The pair also worked together on Sandler's famous Lunch Lady Land song. Since then, he has returned for the show's 40th anniversary (in 2014), plus two other cameos.

The amusing man will make his debut as host on May 4 along with returning musical guest Shawn Mendes.

Sandler will join an elite group of former star's who've returned to host SNL. In related news, Adam Sandler is hosting SNL.

"Saturday Night Live" is produced in association with Broadway Video. The tour is called 100% Fresher, and will run through the entire month of June.

The 52-year-old now has a comedy special on Netflix - "100% Fresh" - and stars alongside Jennifer Aniston in the streaming services' soon-to-be-released film "Murder Mystery". The actor's early acting career had plenty of great comedies, but recent years have been mostly full of disappointments.

More recently, Sandler signed a deal with Netflix.
