Trump Says He Will Present Tiger Woods With the Medal of Freedom

Tiger Woods' comeback will ring through the ages.

Woods came back from the golfing wilderness to end an 11-year majors drought with the win at Augusta, Georgia, on Sunday, earning praise from around the world. Check. A presidential medal of Freedom?

The Presidential Medal of Freedom (along with the Congressional Gold Medal) is the highest award that can be awarded to a civilian in the United States.

Trump didn't announce a date for that honour, which would put Woods in rarefied company along with Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Charlie Sifford, the only other golfers to have received the award.

Trump didn't indicate when he'll present the medal to Woods.

A day after Tiger Woods completed his remarkable comeback by winning his fifth Masters tournament, President Donald Trump says he will bestow another honor on Woods.

Trump appeared to follow the action at this year's Masters closely, tweeting well-wishes to the field on Saturday and encouraging people to tune in when Woods had the lead with just two holes left to play on Sunday. Woods will be the fourth athlete the president has chosen.

Mr. Trump owns a dozen golf courses in the USA and frequently spends his weekends at his clubs in Florida, Virginia or New Jersey. Three of them - Pro Football Hall of Famers Roger Staubach and Alan Page as well as Major League Baseball legend Babe Ruth - are most famous for their athletic achievements.
