In terms of what's staying the same, the slate still packs a 7-inch screen, and Amazon's quoting the tablet as being twice as durable as the iPad mini.

The front-facing camera features one of several other changes: it has come up from VGA resolution to 2MP, making it possible to video chat with friends at 720p. Battery life has dropped from 8 hours to 7 hours because of the always-on Alexa functionality; it's longer when always-on Alexa is turned off.

Amazon-exclusive features-ASAP, For You, X-Ray, Second Screen, Amazon FreeTime, Family Library, Blue Shade, On Deck, Prime Video downloads, and more. The capability to use Alexa hands-free remains from before. Amazon offers a two-year worry-free guarantee promising to replace the tablet if it gets damaged in any way.

The new Fire 7 comes with double the storage starting at 16GB and maxing out with 32GB. The Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition is also available for pre-order, and you can do so here. It features that faster processor and 16GB of memory, but an additional "kid-proof" case with hands-free viewing stand, a two-year guarantee, and one year of Amazon Fire for Kids Unlimited, which should (hopefully) help for those long vehicle journeys this summer. It too will be released on the sixth day of next month.
