Atletico Madrid CONFIRM Antoine Griezmann is leaving as Barcelona plan swoop

Antoine Griezmann has informed LaLiga outfit Atletico Madrid that he will leave the club at the end of the season. Atletico Madrid, which will also be losing center back rock Diego Godin this summer, released a video in which Griezmann thanks the fans and waxes poetic about his time at the club.

The forward bid his farewells in a heartfelt video posted on social media, saying: 'It's been an incredible five years; Thank you very much for everything, I take you in the heart'.

ESPN's Moises Llorens reported in March that the 28-year-old turned down the chance to join Barcelona last summer but had grown increasingly frustrated at Atletico this season.

Griezmann now has a £108million (€125million) release clause, a fee which was decided after he penned a new five-year deal last summer.

The Catalans were in hot pursuit of Griezmann a year ago, but the France star opted to sign a new contract with Atletico through 2023, announcing his intention in a televised special called "La Decision".

He added: "I have to leave, I want to see new places and face new challenges, it's what I need now".

The Frenchman has scored 133 goals in 256 appearances for Atletico since joining from fellow Spanish outfit Real Sociedad in 2014. He won the 2017-18 Europa League title with Los Colchoneros.
