The Jeremy Kyle show cancelled by ITV after death of guest

Carolyn McCall, ITV's chief executive said in a statement on Wednesday: "Given the gravity of recent events we have chose to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show".

Broadcaster ITV said it has permanently canceled production of "The Jeremy Kyle Show", which had been running for 14 years.

ITV said staff at the broadcaster and the show's production team were "shocked and saddened" at the death and the episode will be reviewed.

ITV has cancelled the daytime programme following the death of Steve Dymond. An inquest has not yet been held for Thalassitis, who died in March.

Collins added: "Programmes like The Jeremy Kyle Show risk putting people who might be vulnerable on to a public stage at a point in their lives when they are unable to foresee the consequences, either for themselves or their families".

The broadcaster said it will continue to work with Kyle on other projects, but it has not specified what those will be.

Dymond filmed the ITV show May 2 to convince his fiancée, Jane Callaghan, that he was faithful, but a lie detector test revealed otherwise.

In the days before his death Dymond had reconnected with his estranged son Carl Woolley, learning that he was a grandfather, although he died before he could see his son again or meet his grandchild.

She said: "He wanted to go on".

McCall said the investigation into the episode is "under way and will continue". The episode featuring Dymond will not be broadcast in the United Kingdom or New Zealand.

However, Tory MP Charles Walker, a vice-chairman of the all-party parliamentary group on suicide and self-harm prevention, told the Daily Mail he would be surprised if the show returned to screens.

The show is a tabloid-style talk show, similar to the Jerry Springer Show, where host Kyle moderates - often in an aggressive and confrontational style - discussions between guests who feature in the show to play out social and relationship issues in front of a live audience. If it wasn't for Jeremy Kyle, I probably wouldn't be alive.

"It seems to me that the whole goal of "The Jeremy Kyle Show" is to effect a morbid and depressing display of dysfunctional people who are in some kind of turmoil", Manchester district judge Alan Berg said, The Guardian reported.

"The topics that were tackled were important, like domestic violence, eating disorders and sexual abuse and I feel as if shows like Vanessa did a lot towards encouraging people to talk about hard issues and emotions which had previously been silenced and hidden away".
