Trump agrees with North Korean leader Kim on Biden: White House

Bolton's comments were the first time a US official said North Korea was in violation.

Mr Trump wrote: "North Korea fired off some small weapons, which disturbed some of my people, and others, but not me".

The president, who has staked the entire peace process with North Korea on his personal relationship with Kim, explained that he still has confidence in Kim as a peace partner, while additionally appreciating Kim's mutual love of ranking on a certain former vice president and would-be Trump challenger. I have confidence that Chairman Kim will keep his promise to me, & also smiled when he called Swampman Joe Bidan a low IQ individual, & worse.

Trump himself tweeted about the round of golf - a pastime both leaders have bonded over - and his love for former South African great and nine-time major champion Gary Player.

President Donald Trump suggested Sunday that North Korean dictator and US adversary Kim Jong Un's criticism of the president's political opponent - Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden - was a positive signal, saying that he has "confidence" in the strongman leader.

'Perhaps that's sending me a signal?'

Unlike several other leaders in the region, Mr Abe has yet to meet with Mr Kim, leaving Japan to rely on the USA as an intermediary and advocate with North Korea.

Talks between Washington and Pyongyang fell apart during the Trump-Kim meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam in February. It ended with an armistice, but no peace treaty has ever been signed.

The national security adviser tweeted about the relationship between the United States and Japan saying it is about, "a robust security alliance; space, science and tech leadership; and advancing prosperity through secure energy markets and digital networks".

North Korea has a long track record of violating worldwide agreements and has repeatedly defied United Nations sanctions against its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.

Bolton's remarks are in contrast in tone to President Trump's reaction to the launches.

US President Donald Trump is welcomed by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as he arrives to play golf at Mobara Country Club in Chiba, Japan.

Since being elected, the president has also repeatedly suggested he trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin over American investigators who confirmed that the Kremlin interfered in the USA election to support Trump and disparage Clinton.

Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito, left, and Crown Princess Masako pose for a photo at their residence Togu Palace in Tokyo, Feb. 17, 2019.

Japan views the short-range missile tests as a threat due to the country's proximity to North Korea. In between, Trump holds a formal meeting with Abe in which they are expected to discuss trade and defense matters. Trump has called Kim "Little Rocket Man".

"Unless the United States puts aside the current method of calculation and comes forward with a new method of calculation, the DPRK-U.S. dialogue will never be resumed and by extension, the prospect for resolving the nuclear issue will be much gloomy", the statement added.
