Window washers rescued from wildly swinging lift

Update: Two window washers have been rescued from a lift that came loose in Oklahoma City.

Video showed the lift - which looks like a large metal basket - hitting the side of the building hard enough to break windows.

Around 8:30 a.m., officials said "the basket is now secured and firefighters are working to get the two window washers out of the basket".

The Devon Tower is 50 stories and is the 49th tallest building in the United States.

Paramedics evaluated the men, who both refused treatment. He said the cause of the accident is under investigation.

The Oklahoma City Fire department said on Twitter that the basket was secured as of 8:25 a.m., and the two window washers were safe by 8:49 a.m.

"It appears as though it went as smoothly as it possibly could have in a situation like this", he told reporters at the scene.

The corporate offices of the Oklahoma City-based energy company Devon Energy Corp are located in the Devon Tower.
