Ferrari Joins 2019 F1 Esports Series

With Ferrari's involvement, the 2019 F1 Esports Series will mark the first time all 10 teams on the Formula One grid will be represented in the sport's sim-racing off-shoot.

The series will use F1 2019 by Codemasters - the official F1 game - and this year the prize fund has been more than doubled from $200,000 to $500,000.

The Series will see four live shows take place at the GFinity Arena in London, running between September to December.

The Scuderia was the only outfit not to compete in the first two seasons of the Esports series, but Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto recently admitted it was "seriously" looking at entering for 2019.

A majority of the teams partnered with professional Esports teams such as Veloce Esports, Team Vitality and Team Redline.

Ferrari had been the only team to decide against taking part in last year's championship, which was won by Mercedes. Team-mate Daniel Berezney finished second ahead of Toro Rosso Esports'Frederik Rasmussen.

It's not known how many of last year's drivers will return for another season, or whether reigning champion Brandon Leigh will be back to defend his title after a dominating campaign in 2018.

"It's really exciting to see that all of F1's teams have bought into the vision, that they see the huge potential of esports within Formula 1".

"Last year saw incredible growth for the series and with the commitment of Ferrari completing the virtual grid, we continue to elevate the series to greater heights as we further align our virtual and real world sports, creating one of the world's most innovative esports offerings whether in Motorsport or beyond".

"We've already had this huge expansion in our online qualifying competition, and our draft is going to be bigger as we obviously have all 10 teams involved and all of them will be picking at least one driver from the draft".

"To get its participation underway in the F1 e-Sports Series, the Maranello marque has chose to establish a special Ferrari Driver Academy esports Team section within the Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA.) The actual competition starts in July and the drivers will be announced shortly".
