North Korea executed its top nuclear negotiators, report says

It is being reported across worldwide media that North Korea's nuclear envoy has been executed as part of a purge of officials involved in a failed summit between the USA and North Korea.

North Korean propaganda outlets did not immediately comment on the story on Friday. "Kim Jong-un's interpreter at the summit, Shin Hye-yong, was accused of "tarnishing the authority" of the leader for an interpreting error and is also believed to have been sent to a prison camp", the report said. In 2016, Kim ordered death for Ri Yong-jin, a senior official in the education ministry, for sleeping at a meeting chaired by him.

North Korea is also reportedly looking to renewable and other alternative energy sources as it is unable to procure enough oil, coal, fuel, and diesel under the United Nations sanctions.

CNN's Michelle Kosinski reported she spoke with a senior diplomatic source on the alleged purge following the failed summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Pyongyang's political machinations are notoriously hard to decipher, presenting Washington with a significant challenge in understanding the motivations and reactions of the North Korean elite.

Referring to commitments by Trump and Kim at the first summit a year ago to establish a new era of relations, the statement for the North said, "All the above clearly shows that the June 12 ..."

South Korea is scrambling to prevent the spread of the highly contagious African swine fever on its pig industry after North Korea confirmed an outbreak at a farm near its border with China. An official at the presidential Blue House in Seoul said it was inappropriate to comment on an issue that should first be verified. Joint Statement, [John] Bolton, White House National Security Advisor, [Mike] Pompeo, Secretary of State, and other high-ranking officials of the USA diplomacy and security circles have insulted the dignity of our supreme leadership and spitted out abusive language to the DPRK, calling it as "rogue regime", and unveiled their hostile scheme to stifle us by force, saying that the USA would "change its path" if the DPRK does not give in to the former's demand for dismantlement of the nuke first.

"The two leaders discussed various ways to advance denuclearization and economic driven concepts", White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement on February 28.

"I can tell you we are monitoring the situation and continuing to stay focused on our ultimate goal, which is denuclearisation", she told reporters in Washington.

On Thursday, Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the North's ruling Workers' Party, carried a commentary warning against "anti-party, anti-revolutionary acts" of officials who "pretend to work for the supreme leader in his presence but secretly harbour other dreams behind his back". This type of political execution would be seen domestically as an attempt by the North Korean leader to shift blame for a summit that was well-publicized within the secretive state, he said.

Immediately after Kim returned from Hanoi, North Korean state media reported the meeting was a success.

Kim Hyok Chol has been the counterpart of Stephen Biegun, the Trump administration's chief envoy to North Korea, and was responsible for prep work for the summit between Trump and Kim which took place in late February.

In 2013, the Chosun Ilbo reported that Hyon Song Wol, a famous North Korean artist the newspaper described as Kim's "ex-girlfriend", was executed in public along with several other performers over accusations that they filmed themselves having sex and selling the videos. Analysts said Kim Jong Un may have overplayed his hand by seeking too much sanctions relief and offering too few nuclear disarmament steps in return.

South Korea does sometimes get it right.
