Prince Harry and Meghan share touching tribute to D-Day veterans

During the 2016 election campaign, the duchess - then Meghan Markle - called Trump "misogynistic" and "divisive".

US President Donald Trump (R) and US First Lady Melania Trump (C) view displays of US items of the Royal collection at Buckingham Palace in central London on 3 June 2019, on the first day of their three-day state visit to the UK. "I think she's very nice", Trump said. "Every time someone would say that, I would say "It's so nice to hear that". I didn't mean that she's evil.

It comes following controversy over an interview with Mr Trump in which he criticised the Duchess of Sussex for calling him a misogynist in 2016.

Quickly back-peddling so as to not entirely offend the British royal family, Trump also went on to say that Meghan would still make a "very good" American princess. "A lot of people got to know her after everything [once she started dating Harry], but I knew her before and she's the same chick".

She told the Royally Obsessed podcast she had initially been against starting the blog, saying: 'I honestly though Meghan would never commit to Harry.

The president also appeared to backtrack on comments he made during a press conference with Theresa May in which he said the National Health Service will be "on the table" in talks on a UK-U.S. trade deal after Brexit.

Trump has not met Markle on his contentious state visit.

She added: 'But actually she is doing a fantastic job doing exactly that'.

"I congratulated him and I think he's a terrific guy".

Earlier this week, it was reported that Prince Harry kept his distance from Trump as they toured the Buckingham Palace Picture Gallery - but Donald has claimed otherwise. As a member of the British royal family, Meghan has already strayed further into political territory than others have - for instance, by speaking out against racism, which she has faced personally in recent months.

Trump's state visit in the United Kingdom continues Wednesday with a commemoration of D-Day.

To date, no photos of Trump with Prince William and Catherine or with Prince Harry have been released.

One said: "What happened to the Royal family doesn't endorse political beliefs/controversy beliefs one way or the other??" The Queen and President Trump seemed to be having a great time!
