Toronto Raptors win first basketball championship in team's history

It was the first championship in one of the big four North American sports leagues (NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL) for a Canadian team since the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series in 1993.

After the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors to clinch their first National Basketball Association championship, Ujiri approached the court to celebrate with players and coaches.

As the Raptors' president of basketball operations, Ujiri assembled a roster that defeated the reigning champion Golden State Warriors on Thursday to secure the first championship in Raptors history.

Fans back in Toronto were pictured partying and cheering in the streets after the emotional win. Ujiri is accused of shoving an officer twice and hitting him in the face after he was stopped from coming onto the court to celebrate Toronto's championship at Oracle Arena.

It's great news for the Warriors, who could lose Kevin Durant in free agency later this summer.

When it actually ended, Leonard raised both arms high in triumph and Serge Ibaka pulled his head up through the hoop by the Golden State bench as the crowd chanted "Warriors!"

Then Klay Thompson, towards the end of the third quarter, went up for a transition dunk and was fouled by Danny Green.

"Congrats, bro", Curry said.

The five-time All-Star suffered the injury with just over two minutes left in the third quarter of Game 6 against the Toronto Raptors. He checked out three seconds later, finishing with 30 points, and left the arena on crutches.

Las Vegas Superbook has James' Los Angeles Lakers - who remain in hot pursuit of Anthony Davis - followed by the Milwaukee Bucks and L.A. Clippers, considered a prime contender to sign Kawhi Leonard.

Fred VanVleet scored 22 points off the bench and made big shot after big shot down the stretch to lead the Raptors to an unforgettable win on the road. It has to be a bittersweet moment for DeRozan, who is likely happy for his former team (and teammates) but pained to see it all go down without him.
