The Excessive Heat Warning for Central Indiana is in effect until Sunday at 8 P.M.

Heat advisories are in effect for much of the state. This makes the 13th 90-degree day this year and the 24th straight day where temperatures were 86° or warmer.

"The most unsafe of the heat and humidity will occur from mid-afternoon into the early evening both days", the warning states. Late storms bring relief from the heat. Make sure to practice good heat safety and do not forget to hydrate often.

"Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning, who spend much of their time alone or who are more likely to be affected by the heat", the Red Cross officials report.

Outdoors workers and athletes, and their supervisors and coaches, should take extra precautions to prevent overexertion. Friday's forecast calls for a high of about 86.

Get set for the most extreme days in the first heat wave of 2019 as power companies are bracing for a surge in energy consumption. You should reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours and you should be familiar with the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Heat index values are expected to be up to 110 with temperatures in the upper 90s to 105 degrees and dewpoints in the upper 60s to mid 70s.

"Dozens of record high minimum temperatures are forecast to be set across the eastern US, and a handful of record high maximum temperatures will be challenged", the advisory states.

Another major risk in a heat wave is children or pets getting left hot cars. New York, Philadelphia and the nation's capital already under a heat emergency.

With this heat and humidity, isolated thunderstorms are going to be a potential again by the afternoon hours.
