Atletico Madrid sign England defender Trippier from Tottenham

Rose battled back from injuries and mental health issues last season, playing a key role under Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs reached their first ever Champions League final.

Trippier (12) opened the scoring in England's World Cup semi-final loss to Croatia.

Espanyol recently rejected a €20m but Atletico sent an ultimatum this week which saw the Catalans lower their demands and accept a final offer as the player only had one year left on his contract and wanted to move to the Wanda Metropolitano. He played for England at the World Cup a year ago but lost his place in recent squads.

Atletico did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the reports from Reuters.

The England worldwide has been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs this summer, as a number of clubs from overseas circled the 28-year-old.

The departing Trippier made 69 Premier League appearances for the north London outfit after arriving from Burnley in 2015.

Danny Rose could also be heading towards the Tottenham exit door.

The 18-year-old was initially tipped to join Arsenal in a £27m deal but the Metro claim Tottenham tried to hijack their rivals move by submitting an improved bid and offering Saliba better contract terms.

"We welcome Trippier to the Atletico family and wish him the best of luck in his new home".

Trippier may not be the only full-back leaving Tottenham this summer.

Rose, Janssen and Nkoudou have been granted extra time off granted "in order to explore prospective opportunities with other clubs".

"Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez and Victor Wanyama will return to Enfield to start pre-season training next week following commitments with their national teams at summer tournaments".
