Bound MG ZS EV launches in UK

The zero-emissions SUV will cost from just £21,495 when it goes on sale in the United Kingdom making it fairly affordable. The new electric offering is a five-seater SUV based on the standard ICE versions and offers a full-sized boot in its EV guise making it a practical offering. What's more, the vehicle also has around 163-miles of WLTP range on a single charge, making it suitable for the vast majority of road users in the UK.

ZS EV's 44.5 kWh is produced in China by SAIC Motor and CATL joint venture at an automated manufacturing plant with capacity of up to around 300,000 packs annually (but of course not only for the MG brand, but in general for SAIC cars). Each electric vehicle battery can be recharged from 0-80% in 43 minutes meaning you never have to plan too far ahead for a journey. Plus, you'll also get MG's Pilot system with features like blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control.

Daniel Gregorious, Head of Sales & Marketing at MG, said: "With an exciting £21,495 price point at launch, ZS EV is a compelling option for customers who want to switch from old school petrol and diesel cars and enjoy all the wonderful benefits of electric motoring".

MG claims that this is the "first truly affordable, family friendly electric car". One might also point out that British brand's electric model is still nearly twice the price of their combustion engine version, although, of course, EV customers spend less on both fuel/charging and maintenance. "With MG's trademark value-for-money approach, we're confident that we can help more and more new auto buyers to go electric".

Deliveries will commence in September, but interested customers can secure one of the first 1,000 cars online by placing a £500 ($622/€554) deposit.

The first 1,000 retail customers are able to get behind the wheel from just £21,495.

Government Grant and matching MG EV Grant, the ZS EV Excite starts at £28,495 ($35,476/€31,586), whereas the better equipped Exclusive version can be purchased from £30,495 ($37,966/€33,802). The offer includes the latter model, too, which drops to £23,495 ($29,251/€26,043) after the incentives.

Owners of these early models will receive a free home charging point, which will be installed at no extra charge by MG.
